We are the Association of Building Control Approvers
Most people in the building sector will be aware of the name ACAI – the organisation which represents what used to be called Approved Inspectors and who are now to be called Registered Building Control Approvers.
We are now ABCA – the Association of Building Control Approvers. As ABCA, we will continue to represent our members to the best of our ability.
The original organisation was formed in 1996 to increase the awareness and understanding of private sector building control as a commercial and professional service for ensuring compliance with the Building Regulations. It is independent, wholly funded by its members and has no commercial relationship with product manufacturers or warranty providers.

our purpose
- Help deliver safe, healthy, accessible and sustainable buildings for current and future generations
- Represent the role and development of private sector building control to Government, within the construction industry and generally with the wider public
- To inform and advise our membership body, encouraging professionalism and promoting the proper discharge of the functions of Registered Building Control Approvers
- To formulate views on all issues relating to Registered Building Control Approvers and provide advice, guidance, and codes of conduct for the membership
